El_Pablo Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Hi, I have a huge problem. The DB crashed even the empty clone is not working anymore. As soon as I insert a new record Filemaker freeze. The DB was created in a non relationnal way by a non computer guy in 1994 and was growing since them with some added features... It was working until last week, but now boom! No more. The server can't close this file and we always need to search for unused blocks... Can someone tell what can I do to fix that? Anyhelp would be appreciated Nick
Ender Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 It sounds like file corruption. You'd better find some recent backups, locate one that that works, and begin recovery operations. See FileMaker Knowledge Base Answer#1580 for steps in performing a recovery.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 As soon as I insert a new record Filemaker freeze. The DB was created in a non relationnal way by a non computer guy in 1994 and was growing since them with some added features... It was working until last week, but now boom! No more. There are two issues here. One is why this happened; the other is what to do now. I think based on your description that you have serious corruption in your files. Especially disturbing is the business about what happens when you seek to add a new record. You need expert assistance to extarct your data safely and then to rebuild and to reconfigure your system. Please contact me off line and I will give you a couple of names of people in Montreal who may be able to assist you. [color:red]I would recommend for now that you disconnect the server from the network and not allow anyone to connect to these files. Further damage must be prevented at this critical stage. Steven
El_Pablo Posted November 3, 2006 Author Posted November 3, 2006 I know what is wrong with the DB. Like I told the DB is very old and was growing since the beginning. No normalization at all. One file is 4 GB and another 6GB! Table with more than 1500 fields (redundancy). All seperated files for each table (old way). I found a working backup. I replaced the two problematic files. I will develop a new DB in SQL Server and transfert all data from FM to SQL Server, because FM resource here are rare. I cross my finger while developping the new stuff! Thank you
