Jon Crain Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 I have a database that is based a lot on portal filtering and summaries of these filtered results. The filtering seems pretty easy when everything you want to filter is in the same table. However, I have a couple fields in my portal which are calculations based on other tables. e.g. The portal table is Events, the other table is highlights. A field in the highlight table is Category. If the highlights table has more than one category (like presentation or recruitment) at one specific event, then the event portal under category will show the word "Various" as opposed to the singular category name. However when I'm filtering, I would like the ability to filter different categories of an event regardless if there are various categories there. First off, is this possible and secondly, since this post is probably a little confusing, what further information do you need to offer a hand? Thanks! jon
Jon Crain Posted November 3, 2006 Author Posted November 3, 2006 I'm still having no luck so I've decided just to post the file so you can see exactly what I'm talking about. Under the highlights layout, all of the searches work on the top to filter the portal except for the Attendee and Category search. Is there a relationship which will cause this to work? jon People.fp7_9.zip
Jon Crain Posted November 3, 2006 Author Posted November 3, 2006 Here are my thoughts so far... It seems pretty unrealistic without one of the following... a) Creating a field that will concatenate a number of repetitions of a field from another table into one field. (i.e. If a table 1 has a field "type" with three records that each have "fish" "cat" and "dog" respectively, can you create a field in table 2 that has one record for "fish cat dog") : Create two different portals for viewing that information. (not the best solution, but if it's the only way to get the data...) c) another unthought of way. If anyone knows how to go about this issue, please reply. Thanks! jon
