Web Companion displays no data

I just installed FMPro 5 on an NT machine, converted our database, and published it by enabling Web Companion. In FMPro, I can see all the data. On the web, I see the forms, but there's no data in any of the fields.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

JWilson

Are you using instant web publishing? Have you enabled each databasd to be shared by Web Companion?

This is almost a "my car doesn't start" question...

Vaughan,

Thanks for your enlightening response. Of course I am using Web Companion, or I wouldn't even get the blank fields; there wouldn't be an HTTP server answering at all.

The answer was that there was a [no password] user defined. So, the browser was logging in under that user. And that user did not have rights to see any data. Filemaker support pointed me in the right direction in a few seconds.

How exactly did you get that to work? I'm having the same problem--empty fields. I went to my file/access privileges/define passwords. I had only one password in there and when I highlighted it, the empty/no password dialog box filled in with the correct password, and all the access options were checked. I'm stumped, but my Filemaker skills are pretty rusty.

In my intial reply to jbwilson3 I asked "are you using Instant web publishing" and you replied "Of course I am using Web Companion, or I wouldn't even get the blank fields".

That's wasn't what I asked. Instant web publishing. Read more carefully.

When web-sharing databases, you've got to have the database open with a password that allows browse and *export* privileges -- create and edit privileges might be necessary but only if the solution requires them.

Go back and check your database's passwords. Also check if any users/groups have been created that limit access to fields and layouts.

If you are using *custom web publishing* the situation is a bit more different because the form/url specifies a layout, and all the fields need to be on the layout.

I'm still not having any luck, either. I've checked the layouts, tried an all fileds/no layout option, removed all groups and passwords from a copy of the file, and no success. Also specifically created a no-password, and made sure all the access privileges were checked. All the field labels are there, and I can still search, but there's no data in the fields.

Are you using Instant web publishing or custom? Please specify this clearly because it makes so much difference to the answer!

Sorry about that. I was using instant web publishing. But I found a patch on filemaker's web site, and that solved the problem even though it wasn't on the list of issues the patch was supposed to address.

I'm having a problem that sounds similar. I'm using instant web publishing, to display some databases on the web. Of the 5, 4 work correctly, but one, wihch has 40,000 records, shows up empty. It shows the records, just as blank. Then, when I do any type of search, the records show up with data, and everything works fine. Then, when I return to the home page, and re-enter the database, everything dissapears again.

I have the latest versions of everything, and that didn't help.

Any ideas?
