[color:green]Here's a stumper for you. We are using filemaker 8 in a small office of 4 computers. One of our layouts imports media names from another layout as a drop down list. On the host computer, the alpha list stops around the S media. On all the other ones, the list is able to be viewed through Z.

This wasn't always the case and we're not sure what happened or how to resolve!

Any ideas on problem/fix?

Much thanks.

One layout is called Media and the field is media name. the other layout is called insertion and the field is a drop down list displaying the values from media name.

Is it defined to show all values from the field, or only related values? How many Media records are there?

I haven't seen this problem, but perhaps it's a problem with the field's index. Try turning the media name field's indexing off in the Media table, closing the Define Database dialog, and going back and turning it back on.

Also, make sure the host application has been updated to v3.

Two phrases throw me and one observation I'd make:

You said 'layouts' and you meant table occurrences (I'm pretty sure). This distinction is crital when discussing > vs. 6 - both to you while developing, and to us when visualizing your structure so we can properly respond. You also said 'import' the drop-down. I assume there is no actual import taking place here. I haven't heard of this particular problem either, Mike; although indexing has been an issue. What sparked my response was this:

On the host computer, the alpha list stops around the S media. On all the other ones, the list is able to be viewed through Z.

If a machine is hosting a FileMaker file, it should NOT be used. One system dedicated to only serving is the only way to go; whether administering via FM Server or not. With 4 Users, I assume you aren't using FMS but my point stands. And it shouldn't be on your network server either.

That doesn't mean that you can't switch layouts and test a drop-down (it's open anyway). And I assume that's what you meant. But if it is ALSO a User system or is on your network server, you're opening yourself up to problems - main problem is corruption. I just wanted to make you aware of it. Also, when is the last time that host box was cold booted? Could it possibly be low resources on it? Do you have file sharing turned on to that computer? I hope not. :smile2:
