HELP ! problem printing portal in list view

Hi everybody !

I am getting nuts.

I have a list of records and also 2 portals for this record in the list view.

well everything works well in brows mode. In preview and print the fields from one portal are misaligned.

playing with the field size, moving them, add them one by one makes it print ok.

But I never manage to put all field and buttons before this effect shows

Please what is the problem :?

Hi Ohgo_Ohgo:

I don't know for certain, but there are a few things you could check.

• Are the Sliding/Printing options the same for all elements in the "Side" portal?

• Do the fields in the "Side" portal have their Align Text attributes set to Top? It doesn't look like it, but it's something you could check.

• Are any of the elements sticking outside the portal's boundaries?

• Does the problem remain if you create a brand new portal? Occassionally I've had a portal "go bad" (although it's been a long time).

Sorry I don't have anything more specific. When I saw your topic had gone more than 24 hours without a response, I figured I could chip in some general thoughts.

Let us know what you find.

Yes You are the One ;-) !

Well actually I did all You mentioned , from up to down and from down to up.

The only thing I could figure out was when I put the last from 10 buttons ( both portals together ) in, it went bad. Take any button out (less than 10 ) it worked fine.

Made new fields, copied layouts, recovered the file and new whatever, NO susses !

But reading Your Comments just now ! I did it all again - may be really all together now.

AND it works IT WORKS IT WORKS

I will never touch that layout again hahaha

Well, you did the work, Ohgo_Ohgo! I'm just glad it's solved.

Any idea what the exact glitch was? Might be able to warn other readers if you could pinpoint the problem.

Believe it or NOT , but I forgot to put back 1 button into the left portal.

Now I have put it back. AND it’s ....ed again grrrrrrrr...

I don't know what to do ! Do I really have to make a “print” layout where I don't need the buttons :? Just to be able to print with now problem btw (OSX 10.47)

Well I still thanks You very much ThatOneGuy ! All You said is normally the solution to the problem.

Must be something more misterious :?

You ever heard from the 9 button limit in list view hahaha

That's weird!... And all 10 buttons have the same Sliding/Printing prefs?

If your buttons are graphics, Is it possible that one of them is larger than the others (like, it includes some "white space"), and therefore it is "out-of-bounds" of the portal?

Hi ThatsOneGuy !

I must a little restate.

No problem with the list in browse mode. Only preview & printing shows the misaligned fields in either the left or right portal.

Each portal shows only 2 fields (container & text) on top of the container are 5 each buttons (invisible and 1 each beside) ( that should be 12 not 10 ;-( ).

Removing any from that 12 buttons out of one portal( no printing/sliding at all !) cures the problem.

NEW : Taking any other field out of one portal also cures the problem

Q: Is preview actually a FMP part or does that work with the print driver : (I have problems printing exelsheets sometimes too !!)

Again all this problem happens only in preview !!

Man, I just don't know what else it could be at the moment. Nothing else is coming to mind. (I hate to bring up the "file corruption" phrase. A lot of us often want to blame a problem on corruption, but I bet that more than half the time it turns out to be something we overlooked.)

Now, that's a very good question! Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you. Maybe some of our gurus could respond to that.

In the meantime, is it possible for you to attach your database as a .zip file? I may not find the problem, but I'd be happy to take a look at it. Sometimes "fresh eyes" see different things.

I was thinking about a away, but its part of quite a huge system. This problem page alone uses 4 tables and 13 relations.

In the meantime I made a new layout and copied only normal fields to the new one, all the critical ?? portal things I made new.

I even eliminated the buttons and use a field with value list to set the colour bars.

Well it's worse than ever before ! Now both portals are misaligned........

well I keep You informed... I don’t even dare to look at my other reports and layouts......

But I have news .

First I guest that I can make a sample by deleting all the other staff out of a copy of my big file - worked.

Ok and than I looked at KitchenStation1 layout still bad.

The old KitchenStation layout looked fine, but I had this layout without buttons when I made the copy.

I made all the 12 buttons new and it worked with no problem.!?

I than copied this new buttons from the sample file back to my full working file and also here it worked.

So whatever it was something funny to say the least. As a little proof that I was not dreaming I enclosed the sample file .

look at the Station layout .btw to get the pop-up list to :auto populate the Staff records You need Zipp script plug in.

So at the moment lots of THANK You TheOneGuy for Your guidance trough this experience !

That seems to work! The "KitchenStation1" layout in preview mode clearly has a problem displaying properly. But KitchenStation looks very nice!

Boy, I sure hope this is the end of it. I've enjoyed our discussion, but whatever little bit of "street cred" I had has probably evaporated.
