Newbies Kalia Posted November 6, 2006 Newbies Posted November 6, 2006 There are a number of fields in our database that are check box style value lists. When clicking the mouse on any one of these check boxes, we get this message: " 'Name of field' is defined to contain only specific values. You must enter a valid value." After you hit okay, it puts an "X" in the check box (as it should). Can someone tell me how to get rid of this unnecessary message? Thank you!
Lee Smith Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 You are getting this warning (I think), because you have "Numbers Only" Option checked. Why is this a worthless warning, FileMaker is telling you that the data isn't numbers when they check multiple boxes? Either remove the restriction, or change the boxes to a list, buttons (they can still override them, but it isn't as easy), or instruct the users to only choose one box. If I missed understood, please let us know, or attach a file so we can see first hand. HTH Lee
Newbies Kalia Posted November 7, 2006 Author Newbies Posted November 7, 2006 Lee, The problem is that this error message appears before ANY check box has been checked. (FYI, we are not using "custom" value lists but rather the values are taken from a referenced field.) Thanks, Kalia
mr_vodka Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Kalia, change or remove the validation of the field that the checkbox value list is attached to. You may, most likely, have a mismatch on the value list that you use for the checkboxes verses the value list you use for the validation of the field.
Newbies Kalia Posted November 10, 2006 Author Newbies Posted November 10, 2006 Lee and John, Thanks to your clues, I think I figured out why it wasn't working properly. It is related to the fact that there are two fields for each item on the value list (a number field and a text field.) The field on the main layout refers to both of these two fields and that was messing things up but it's working now. Thanks for your help, Kalia
