I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I couldn't find a forum that talked about FM errors.

Consistently I've been getting the following error: "{Filename} is damaged and cannot be opened. Use the recover command to recover this file."

This error happens while I'm working in the file. Randomly it will popup and then close the file. Sometimes I lose some information. Any ideas what could be the cause of this?

Thanks

It sounds like file corruption. I hope you have clean backups of your file. There are numerous threads on here in regards to handling file corruption but the quick summary of it would be to:

1. Use recovery to recover your file

2. Do not use a recovered file as the main file. Even though it has been recovered, it is not recommended to keep using that file. Rather use step 3.

3. Import the data into a backup copy of the file that you know is NOT corrupt and use that file.

Here is the situation and maybe someone can bring some light to it.

I have a FileMaker file that I host on a machine. I'm not using FM Server, I'm just simply hosting the file on the machine so it can be shared by several users. The file is usually always running unless it becomes damaged...which has happened a lot lately. Thankfully, I usually don't lose much data at all.

When I access the file, I actually remote into the machine using Windows Remote Desktop Client. Another user with FM uses the file at the same time using the network sharing functionality (He is not using Reomte Desktop). Sometimes, the file becomes damaged right after I remote into the machine and start using the file and sometimes it will happen after I'm using it for a while. Does this make sense to anyone?

I am sure Steven will chime in with all the faults of your current setup but I would look at getting dedicated box and run server off of it first.
