The project I am working on involves existing data with a serialized stock number that carries meaning.

There are two varieties:

A1234567

AA123456

The letter(s) refer to the vendor the item came from. I would like to capture just the letters away from numbers.

How can this be accomplished?

How about:

Filter ( StockNumber ; "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz" )

Filter() is case-sensitive so you might want to use capitals.
