Browsers other than IE lock up web companion

Featured Replies

I think this is know problem with NN and Instant publishing. From memory choose the plain instant publishing theme, the one that does not need CSS.

Thanks, I looked all over the filemaker site and did not see any known issues on that. I'm glad someone knows it I have also been having trouble with other web publishing themes crashing all togther. I'll try to pick the plainest possible. I finally gave up on instant and am using CDML.

Still blows up, but with mozilla 0.9.4, not with netscape 6.0

go figure

I have a data base that crashes every time it is accessed by netscape, but not by ie. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I have tried creating a new layout, and have the same result, but I also have the same problem with a brand spanking new database. To make it worse, it happens using both the classic, and OSX versions of filemaker pro 5.5. I also (in almost any browser) can only use the soft gray instant publishing layout, all others crash. I tried a reinstalling filemaker and I get the same results. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I have very little control over the browsers that people use when accessing my site.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I confirm that FM5.5 serving as a web host, whether using Instant Web Publishing or CDML (custom publishing) will hang the machine if a client using Netscape 6.x attempts to browse the the machine. I got FileMaker on the phone and they were able to duplicate the problem with me while on the phone. They are investigating and will get back to me. I'll post the results here.

Problem solved. FileMaker 5.5v1 and 5.5v1 Unlimited both ship with Web Companion 5.5v1. The compatibility issue with Netscape 6 is resolved with Web Companion 5.5v3. FileMaker has not yet released the 5.5v3 Web Companion plugin on its Updates downloads page (there is a 5.5.v2 updater but it's only for French, German, Italian and doesn't resolve the issue).

If you purchased FileMaker 5.5v1 Unlimited, there is a folder on the CD called Web Companion Update which includes the 5.5v3 Web Companion plugins for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X.

There is presently no other way to get the update. I'm certain that FileMaker will post the v3 plugin update on their Updates downloads page, hopefully soon!

Today I received FMP 5.5 Unlimited for Mac and it has only Web Companion 5.5v1(3/9/2001). I cannot find any other version on the CD.

I found it! Web Companion 5.5v3 is on the other CD titiled 'Web Server Connector & Tools'.

Is that on Mac?

If you switch to custom publishing, you can avoid this by pure HTML code and by redirecting the NN visitor to warning page.
