This is probably a simple question, but is there a way to hide a portal in a layout besides changing the text color, etc.?

I want to use the portal info in a merge but do not need it displayed.

Why bother even having the portal then? You dont need the portal to merge the related data displaying thru the portal. A portal is just that. Its a window to the related records of the relationship that you specify.
