January 19, 200718 yr Newbies I am creating a database that handles clips of acoustic recordings with related information (i.e. source, date, location, etc.). There is one sound file per record. I am working on a MacBook Pro but the database will need to be cross-platform compatable. I cannot find a way to insert the actual sound file into FileMaker. It will only link the sound and if/when the sound is moved, the record loses it. I need to "embed" the sound into the database (as oppose to linking) to ensure maximum movability of the complete database. The sounds are .wav, so Quicktime compatible, but the "insert Quicktime" function does not give me the option to insert the sound directly. Help?

January 20, 200718 yr I don't think you can embed QuickTime files as such. When you choose 'Insert QuickTime...", there's no option to select/deselect 'Store only a reference...' - and the media is always inserted as reference only. This is very poorly documented - the only hint I could find is under "Importing a folder of files all at once": Because movie files are usually large, they are always imported by reference. You can still embed any type of file using 'Insert File...'. I don't know what you mean by "doesn't work". It works fine for me. Of course, the file is not directly playable - it needs to be exported first.
