Formatting Layout Problem in FM3 Mac

A few years ago I was quite proficient in setting up basic databases in FM 3 for the Mac. As I recall, to move a field or its label in layout mode, all I had to do was click and drag.

I haven't used FM in a while but needed to make a db now, and still have FM3 but using it on newer macs. It runs in the old OS 9. NOW when I click and drag on a field or label in layout mode, it duplicates the selection and moves the duplicate--though not exactly to where I put it.

Am I missing something in the preferences/settings? Is this an artifact of using an old application on a newer computer? Have I totally lost my mind and forgotten how to move a field? I'll be upgrading to a newer version one of these days but in the meantime it's really critical for me to get this particular db and its layouts together fast. Help?

Thanks,

Laurie

I'm going by memory here, so take if for what it is worth.

I seem to remember that when system 9 was released, this was a problem with v3/4. For some reason, the copy didn't work right, but you could Cut and Paste as a workaround.

I just looked at the tech articles a FMI site, and all it says is the v3/4 are compatible with system 7 and above.

p.s.

I never rule out corruption, especially if the file has had problems. The other thing you might try, if you have a machine with OS 7 on it, test it on it an see what happens.

Thanks, Lee. I remember that workaround too--I got so used to it I forgot about it. I wish this problem was that easily solved! That's a thought about seeing if I can pull one of our older macs up and running it there. File corruption . . . don't want to even think about that but you're right, it's possible.
