Hi Im looking for a way to export a single record in a format that can be attached to an email and I am also looking for a way to export a single record that i can fax.

I am working at an electric motor shop. I am using FMP7 to inventory all our motors. People call up and want quotes on motors. I want a way to be able to take the information for that specific motor from my FMP7 database and then export it so i can either attach it to email or fax it to them. I really need to be able to do both. Ive been reading the help files but see nothing and i have been searching these forums and also coming up blank. Please help.

You can use these script steps to isolate the current record:

Show All Records

Omit Record

Show Omitted Only

A better technique is to open a new window, do the above, do whatever you need, then close the window. That way you don't lose your current found set.

You should also look hard at upgrading to FileMaker 8.5. FileMaker 8+ has better support for attaching files to emails, Save as PDF, and basically anything to do with external files.

FileMaker 8.x still uses the .fp7 file format, so a "conversion" of the file(s) is not needed.

Wow I just installed and tried 8.5 and looks like I definitely need to upgrade! 8.5 is excellent! It does exactly what I needed

If you have a choice, pay the difference, and get the Advance version (aka Developer edition).

on a related note:

I am trying to do something similar to the OP, I want to send an email confirmation to someone and send them the contents of their Record that is on file.

But I would like to avoid sending it as an attachment. I don't see any way to easily extract the entire record (or the fields I want to extract) so that I can just paste it into an email.

I can export the Record out as plain text, but then it ends up as Tab-Formatted text and I don't get the Field names.

I can also single out a Record and use Print to PDF to create a PDF file, but this will take me forever and I'd like to avoid attachments if possible. I may as well take a screen shot and attach that.

I'd upgrade to 8.5 if it would make this easier for me, but again, I'd like to avoid attached files.

I suspect that the above replies have already answered this and my question is redundant, but I thought I would try.
