Coming out of version 6, 8.5 has new features, and tabs are certainly cool.

Are there script steps that can control the viewing of these tabs, or is the only way to bring forward a field that is contained in one of the tabs?

7 & 8 you need to do the trick of referencing a field on a particular tab.

With 8.5, no longer. You can just assign an object name to each tab, and then use a Go to Object [] script step.
