Newbies craigS Posted January 24, 2007 Newbies Posted January 24, 2007 Hi, I am having some problems using the FieldNames ( fileName ; layoutName ) on FM 8 Advanced. When I host my database using the following calculation: [color:red]FieldNames (Get ( FileName ) ; Get ( LayoutName ) ) it returns all the field names on the current layout, as expected. When I then host this same file on FM Server that same calculation returns ?. The only possible difference I can see is the window name when I host the database is [color:red]Filemaker Pro Advanced - [myDatabase] but when hosted on FM Server displays as [color:red]Filemaker Pro Advanced - [myDatabase (FM Database Server)] I have tried concatanating the (FM Database Server) in my calculation and even tried harcoding the calculation with the database name: [color:red]FieldNames ("myDatabase" ; Get ( LayoutName ) ) but it still always returns ? when hosted by FM Server. As soon as I close the file and host it on my machine the calc works. Has anyone else had any similar problems or know where I am going wrong? Or if it is a known issue is there a workaround? I've searched google and a few fm rescource sites but have not turned anything up. Thanks in advance for your help. I am using Win XP, FM8 Advanced and Server 8 Advanced.
mr_vodka Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 I could not replicate your issue. I am running Server 8.04 and FM 8.5 client. Is the calculation result text?
LaRetta Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 (edited) Layout Name does not return the same results as Window Name. What the window name says has nothing to do with it. And results are returned based upon client. What is the layout name you are using? Could you be using invalid characters in the layout name or field names? I truly hope you aren't opening a client on your FM server as that can certainly trash your file. Do you have file sharing on to FMS? UPDATE: Do you have the latest updaters? It should FMP 8.0v3 and FMS 8.0v4. How are you configured? Your FMS machine isn't XP, is it? Edited January 25, 2007 by Guest
