gunnerjoe Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Hi All, Newbie Question: I have three tables, that are not related. I have created layouts for each. Two of the tables work fine, the third one when I'm in browse mode and select "Record / New Record" I can enter the first record, but when I add the second record it allows me to enter the data but there is still only one field. It does not create a new field, any idea what I have forgot to do? Also when in Layout mode with this third Layout, the "Layout Part Labels" Header, Body and Footer are arranged Horizontally and not vertical. Is there a way to flip the Labels vertically? Thanks All, Joe
gunnerjoe Posted February 3, 2007 Author Posted February 3, 2007 Ok ctrl clicking will flip the "Labels." Still stuck on the other part.
Lee Smith Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Are you trying to create a new record using the portal? Lee
gunnerjoe Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 Hello, No this is three very basic tables and layouts. I'm to new to tackle portals :
LaRetta Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 but when I add the second record it allows me to enter the data but there is still only one field. It does not create a new field, any idea what I have forgot to do? Hi Joe, Are all of your fields for this new third table on the layout? If not, you must manually place them on; simply creating a new field does not automatically place it on the layout for you. If all fields are on the layout but you can't add data into them (for the new record) then it means that the fields do NOT match the table occurrence that the layout is based upon. If you need to add the fields, select Insert > Field. Find your new table occurrence in the drop-down and select the field that way. If the fields are there but you can't type into them, select the field then choose Format > Field Control > Setup. Re-specify the correct table occurrence (the one which matches the layout) and the field it should represent. If you need to add a new field to this new table, you can do so by selecting File > Define Database and choose the Fields tab. Type your new field name at the cursor (wide box at bottom), select the data type it should represent and say OK. Then place it on your layout as described above. If none of this helps you, then it might help to see your file. Sometimes when new, it is difficult to explain a problem when one doesn't know what a problem IS. LaRetta
gunnerjoe Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 Hi All, Your correct, when your new to something like this it is hard to ask the question correctly. But, I did figure out what I was doing wrong and it was simply the "View." View As List, As Form, As Table. It's always something simple. Thanks, Joe
