Rick DeCollo Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Hello: Haven't done this in awhile, but when i try to host a database (Pro7) on Server 8 advanced, I cannot change the status to Normal in server Admin. Right now, the file status is closed...i right click to open and it goes right back to closed....I know i am forgetting something simple. any ideas? thanks! rICK
Jaren Meier Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Try to make a backup of the file and use the Recover function. I had the same problem and it worked.
mr_vodka Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Try Compacting the file and see if that works. I downloaded a copy of the Charting example last week from the FM website and had the same issue with their file. I Compacted the file and it started opening on Server.
Jaren Meier Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Yea, tech support at FM also made that suggestion. Good heads up.
Rick DeCollo Posted February 9, 2007 Author Posted February 9, 2007 I compacted the file and it worked fine! Thanks!
Steven H. Blackwell Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 When you say "compacted" I hope you mean Save a Copy compressed and not the compact file maintenance tool. Steven
Steverino Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 What's wrong with the file maintenance tool? Should I be wary of optimizing?
Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 The maintenance tool should [color:red]never be used on files that are suspected of being damaged. See FMI Tech Info # 5594. Steven
Steverino Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 But files you don't suspect of being damaged it's OK? How about a file that you've had to save as compressed/compacted for hosting, and it's working fine now? Or one that you've had to recover at some point in the distant past?
Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I'd err on the side of caution and not do it. But when they wake up at FMI HQ today, I will make some further inquiry about this. Steven
