Nagasaki Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Is there a way to insert many pictures into their respective records all at once? My coworker is looking for a shortcut from inserting pictures one by one into their records. I can explain that better, please let me know.
Genx Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 There is always a way, but is there a pattern in this case?
Fenton Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 There is the Import Folder command. If you have a field with the file name in it (exactly, incl. extension), and the file names are unique, then you can use the "Matching records" option in the import, matching on File Name (one of the built-in "fields" when you import a folder of images). However, if you do not have the file name in the database, then, as Genx says, how would it know which record to put the picture in? Also, you must decide whether to embed the picture, store only a reference, or calculate the path to the picture. There are a few questions when you deal with pictures that must be answered before deciding on a technique.
Nagasaki Posted February 16, 2007 Author Posted February 16, 2007 Thanks, I knew there was a way to do it, though I'm not sure if I can make it work. The field name that I wanted to import the image into is just called "Image." Basically each record holds information about a certain object, and each object has a number (which is displayed in a field called "accession number." From what I understand, I would need to change the "Image" field name to whatever the actual image was saved as, correct? Thanks for your patience!
Fenton Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 When you match the File Name (which is a fixed object returned by the Import Folder command) you choose which field in your database would have, as values, text which would match the names of the files. The name of the field is irrelevant.
