hi,

i'm trying to find an alternative for this current calculation i'm using for Field 2:

If (Field 1; "*"; "BI")

The problem with this is is that if Field 1 contains any numbers, e.g. "pop song 2", the calculation doesn't work and "BI" is not entered into Field 2. Is there a way around this?

It would help to know what the calculation is SUPPOSED to do.

oh i'm sorry. i thought the subject explained it...

if field 1 contains ANY text, then i want the text "BI" to be entered into field 2. (just so i can keep field 2 blank if field 1 has nothing entered...)

does that make sense?

How about:

Case ( not IsEmpty ( Field 1 ) ; "BI" )
