xtrim Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 hi, I'm trying to input hebrew into a field. except for that the marker is staying at the begining of the line all the time, when I try to use anything else besides letters and numbers, it is showing it at the begining of the line unless I print a letter afterwards. For example if I try to end a sentence with "." then I would get "דוגמא." For those of you who don't read hebrew, the dot should be on the other side, and yes, the fields are alligned to the right. Any suggestions?
comment Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 This is a known issue, due to Filemaker's poor implementation of Unicode. It's much better on a Mac, though still not perfect. But there may be hope for a better future.
xtrim Posted March 27, 2007 Author Posted March 27, 2007 I was affraid this would be the answer... My client wants the whole app in hebrew (the first one...) Now I need to tell him I cannot do it because of font problems this is truly ridiculous...
comment Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I wouldn't go that far. Of course, a lot depends on the nature of your application, but a straightforward database is definitely doable. You just need to be a bit more rigid about normalizing, for example no mixing of LTR and RTL data in the same field, and strictly separate fields for numbers and texts. Some minor annoyances will always remain, but I believe these are outweighed by the ease of tailoring the application to the client's needs.
