Newbies pcline Posted March 28, 2007 Newbies Posted March 28, 2007 OK, I go through the process of creating a portal with the appropriate fields, etc. It shows up on the layout (layout mode of course) and there's the portal and it's fields. Switch to brows mode and the fields disappear. Switch back to layout mode and find that the fields are now behind the portal and I cannot bring them in front of the portal. One portal that I made the other day had this issue. Today I opened the database and I could enter data in the fields! But I wanted to move the portal and so I did, fields and all. Switch to brows mode, and find that the fields are behind the portal again! How do I get the portal fields to stay in front of the portal? Thanks
mr_vodka Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Strange. Usually when the fields are on the portal they will stay in the foreground. Have you tried selecting the portal and sending to the back? Might you have grouped some fields with the portal inadventantly?
Newbies pcline Posted March 28, 2007 Author Newbies Posted March 28, 2007 Yes, sending portal back, fields forward, etc. makes no difference. Its as if the portal and its fields are tied together since the "arrange" functions dont make a difference. For kicks I created a new database and the same thing happened. Time to reinstall FileMaker?
gandolf Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Hi I too am having the same issue with the fields being in the layout during the layout view but when switched to browse the portal is there but no fields:( I too am looking for what I have done wrong (only a novice) gr8ly appreciate any assistance
Søren Dyhr Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Now everybody replying here consider themself higher skilled than I, so please forgive me suggesting that 1 pix in common with the portal borders exhibit exactly this behaviour! --sd
Oldfogey Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Now everybody replying here consider themself higher skilled than I sd Soren, that is simply not true! However, you could have said "make sure the top LH corner of the fields are definitiely WITHIN the portal; they cannot even coincide with the portal's boundaries." I didn't know that last bit; mine are always a pixel in anyway because I'm cautious. So thanks.
Newbies sinnetbs1 Posted May 3, 2007 Newbies Posted May 3, 2007 I'm a newbie and this may be a moot point, but when I was setting up tabs, i noticed that my fields within the tabs didn't show up unless there were actually records in the database. If there are no records linked to the portal and no records in the database containing the portal, maybe it won't show. of course this won't help if there ARE records in there....
gandolf Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Hi sinnetbs1, Your point is not moot in fact very valid for us newbies. If there are no records linked to the portal and no records in the database containing the portal, maybe it won't show. That is what turned out to be my issue and once i had been shown the way all is good and I thank other for their kind support. Cheers
