Genx Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Hi Guys, I'm in a bit of a conundrum and am afraid i'll be thinking about it for 10 hours before i come up with something workable. I need to do hierarchical style finds (and privileges)... Essentially any single person (or supervisor) within the scenario can 'own' a record... but when isomeone does a find, i need them to find the records owned by everyone below themselves (including themselves) in the hierarchy. The people who create the records essentially own them so an account id from the accounts table can be placed in a creation field... Examples: 1) When supervisor 2b does a search, all their records are returned, aswell as all the records owned by supervisor 1a, 1b and also person 1a, and person 1b. 2) When supervisor 1d does a search, all their records are returned, aswell as all the records owned by person 1d, person 1f, and person 1g. 3) When supervisor 2b is browsing a record owned by person 1a, they have editing rights to the record. The main issue here though is that supervisor 3 isn't the end of it... It could potentially go on to supervisor x (where x is any number). I need help!!! Please Thanks guys.
Ender Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 It should be possible to use a structure like this in conjunction with your records to filter what records are visible: http://fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/135595/

Genx Posted April 15, 2007 Author Posted April 15, 2007 Hi Mike, Example file works great, My only question is what happens if the supervisor's supervisor changes? The subordinate records won't update will they?
