Hi, I would like to know if there is a limit of fields you can include in a form using CDML.

I am getting and error when I try to send more than 24 fields in a form.

any help will be apreciated.

well. this probably isnt your problem, but there shouldn't be head commands at the bottom of the page.. move the

<META HTTP-EQUIV="PRAGMA" CONTENT="NO-CACHE">

command between the top head commands and get rid of the head commands at the bottom..

and doesnt a 102 error mean that it could not find the record.. not sure on that one.. could be wrong..

yes, : ) I know that shouldnt be on the bottom line, It was there because I was trying to make this page not catched to avoid duplicating new records if re-submitted as a Microsoft help page me told me to use it at top and botom to try to avoid the page to be catched.

I already took it off the page, I have checked all the fields about 4 time by now, and havent find any wrong reference to the database ones : ( ...

Error 102 = "Field is missing."

And yet your layout name could lead one to believe you had a layout dedicated to the web solution which would have all the fields for that solution accessible thereon.

Beyond that, I'm not much help.

oops sorry here is the error it is giving to me:

Data entry error

Your attemp to edit a record failed because of the following

Unknown error number 102

yeah, error 102 = field missing, not record not found. Basically, when you use 24 fields they all happen to be on there, you add some more and they (maybe just one) are not on the layout that you specified. its a real pain in the #$()*)% when you have a bunch of fields. if you check over and over and it seems that all the fields in your web page are also in your layout, then you probably barely mispelled something. So check thoroughly, once i was getting the same deal with around 70 fields on on page, ended up spelling "TITLE" as "TILTE" in my Database so i kept over looking it. So checking both the web and db spelling until you find it.

I don't believe there is any technical restriction to the max number of fields you can submit in a form I have used over 25 and over 120 in hidden fields before without a problem. 9 out of ten times when I get a 102 error message it's because I've miss-spelt a field name.

Oh my ! I really apreciate how all of you have give me a hand on this problem.

I have found the I did not have one of the fields in the layout, I did correct it and now is working fine.

I still dont understand well why I need to specify a layout but I think this is because I am new to CDML.

It is so nice to be working with Filemaker and the web since I have use filemaker to solve all my data needs since 1991 or 1992.

Really, thanks for your help.

If you don't specify a -lay FMP generates a "virtual" layout for the job, but this takes time and slows the process down.

There are also a few neat tricks that can be done with layouts: for instance I've found that only firlds on the layout are validated, which means you can "build-up" a record in stages using different -lay and avoid error 509 field requires a valid value.

To conclude, you don;t have to specify a -lay but if you do it has to have all the fields on it that are being used by the pages that access it.

Thanks Vaugha, I have found a really encouraging support in this forum [i hope I can express what I mean, my mother languaje is spanish] I am so interested in the CDML and filemaker in the web, but I still have many things I dont know how to work with, for example, am I able to validate records using CDML? May I use related fields on a page?, May I mix Javascripts without jaming the FMPro response? those are just a few of them, but I will be working on it to know if this is possible. Again, thanks for your help and all others that did replyied to my post; May God bless you all.
