Urgent help needed.

I have three databases which had been working fine with no problems. Then in the last two weeks or so, they have been erratically asking me for passwords. I've checked File Options in the dropdown File Menu (which does have a blue checkmark next to it), but in all three, the Log in using... is NOT checked.

In the last two weeks, sometimes I couldn't open the db by clicking the file name or doing a File Open, but I could get to the other two by going into one of them and opening the other two from it (because they're all related).

All of a sudden today, I can't get into two of them at all. They continue to ask me for non-existent passwords.

No one else has access to these files.

What can I do about getting into these databases?

If the Log in using must be checked, then what do I put for the Account and Password. I don't want to have to enter this every time I open the file.

It depends from which privilege do you want to give to your user.

If that file is used only by you, you can enter the Full Access Account ( normally Admin ) and no pwd

This is spooky. I previously asked about a problem with three related databases which were suddenly asking me for passwords.

Now another databased completely and totally unrelated in any way to the previous three is asking me for a password when I never set one and have not changed anything in it between yesterday and today. This new database suddenly asking for a password is stored on a totally different computer and is for a different business.

I'm using FMP 8.0 v.3. WHY is this happening?

Is it the same solution deployed in both locations.

Maybe the file was copied to both locations with corruption... like a time bomb the corruption has reached critical in both locations a week/days apart due to the volume of data entered.

They are different files used for totally different purposes and with completely different information. One is related to business jobs and the other is related to a part-time teaching job I have. They have utterly no connection with one another.

No updates that I'm aware of. I use XP Pro, and although I'm notified of all updates, they are not downloaded and installed until I do it myself. That hasn't happened in a week, I think.

i am having a very similar problem.

background: i created a new database a few days ago. when i opened the second time and went into layout mode to continue working on it i wasn't able to make any changes to the layout. i used open recent to open the file and then was able to edit the layout. i poked around in preferences to try and figure out why this happened and noticed that the log in when opening was checked and unchecked it. i saved a copy of the file with a new name in the hopes that would correct whatever issues i was having with layout.

today when i opened the file it asked me for a password for an old account that had been used on this computer in the past. no one knows the password anymore but thanks to this forum i was able to log in to the file as admin. i looked in file options and log in was UNchecked. i tried checking it and putting a user name in but it still asked for the old account info when i reopened it. i tried recovering the file but that didn't change anything. i'm out of ideas!

i have a lot of information that i need to put into this database but i don't want to start until i know that it isn't corrupted or going to stop working suddenly. should i start over and remake the database? can i copy my layout over into a new file without bringing whatever corruption there is with it?

thanks for your help, this is my first time using this forum! :
