Newbies jordan2318 Posted May 8, 2007 Newbies Posted May 8, 2007 (edited) I have upgraded from filemaker pro 2 to 8.5, but when i try to open a file from 2 it trys to updtae but cant, tells me to view it in 2.0. Is there any way of getting this file open? Edited May 8, 2007 by Guest
Vaughan Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 You'll need to convert the file to FMP v3 or FMP v5 format BEFORE trying to convery it to FMP v7 format. Probably the easiest way is to find a copy of the FMP 6.0 Trial version, and install that to perform the initial conversion. It might still be available on the FMI web site.
Lee Smith Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Why? you can open v3 directly in v8.5. I do this all of the time. I usually just drop the v3 file onto the FileMaker 8.5 icon. Lee
mr_vodka Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 IMHO, its just better to create a new fresh solution in 8 and then if there is anything needed from the file done in 2, import the data into the new structure.
Vaughan Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Lee: the file is FMP 2. Getting it from FMP 2 into FMP 3 format is the hard part.
Lee Smith Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 : Oops I didn't read the original post, so I missed that. That's what I get for jumping in late. My apologies to anyone that I might have misled. Lee
