Importing a filemaker file from vers 2

I have upgraded from filemaker pro 2 to 8.5, but when i try to open a file from 2 it trys to updtae but cant, tells me to view it in 2.0. Is there any way of getting this file open?

You'll need to convert the file to FMP v3 or FMP v5 format BEFORE trying to convery it to FMP v7 format.

Probably the easiest way is to find a copy of the FMP 6.0 Trial version, and install that to perform the initial conversion. It might still be available on the FMI web site.

Why?

you can open v3 directly in v8.5. I do this all of the time.

I usually just drop the v3 file onto the FileMaker 8.5 icon.

IMHO, its just better to create a new fresh solution in 8 and then if there is anything needed from the file done in 2, import the data into the new structure.
