Making a report field;s size dynamic

I'm using Filemaker to compile a printed report of many different records. One of the fields contains large blocks of text. I would like to have this field in the layout/report change size based on the record data, and information after it to change positions based on size.

That was probably unclear, so here's examples. If the data in that field is just a short paragraph, it would stay on one page, and whatever is after it would show up right after it ended. If the field data is very long spanning several pages, then filemaker should (instead of cutting it off at the end of the page like it does now) continue on multiple pages as it needs, then place whatever is after it right at its end.

Is thsi possible? If so, how would I do it?

you need to make the field that contains the large blocks of text as big as possible and then use sliding to have all the following fields move up as it changes size. See Format->Set Sliding/Printing.

Thanks, that did the trick. I figured sliding had something to do with it, but i was missing the part about making the field big.

Now I'm running into a problem: I can only make the field and page size so big, about 12 pages before it won't let me drag anymore. Some of the records are longer than that. Is there a way around thsi artificial limitation?

Hmm, not really no, though the fact that your storing that much info in one field may not be advisible -- is it a book or...?

I suppose you could take the main record and split it into sub records after x characters..
