Inserting page numbers

I'm trying to insert page numbers by record. That is, they start at 1 for each record and increase until the end of the record. Next record starts at 1 again. Can I do this?

Printing, Browsing etc. It needs to go in a merge field. (or it could be in its own field, but wherever I want/with whatever format)

and how will this work for browse mode? You can see the page number in browse mode.
