How to read statistic on server admin consolle

Featured Replies

Hello all,

yesterday I tried to read the statistics of my filemaker server 8 through the admin consolle because often filemaker performances seems to be slowed down.

Anyway, I don't know exactly what represent the data I see and what kind of data is better.

I.e.:o must chach hit percentage value be low or high? Or, Network KB/sec (in the attached file is 0 but, of course, normally it shows a value).

Some one can explain me how to read these informations? And, eventually, tell me when filemaker works best?

Your cache hit percentage should be 90-99%. Sounds like you need to up your cache and/or install more RAM.

Thanks John, which is to you, or according to filemaker inc., the best cache size? Someone told me to keep this value low (and we set it to 16MB), but it seems we should give more cache di FMS. Actually our application is made by 89 files (many relationships as you can figure).

Can you tell me some more about the other data (Network activity etc..), cache unsaved etc..?

Thank you in advance!

I'd up your cache setting until you see 90-99% hit percentage. It looks like I was reading the wrong column on your screenshot though, as you already have 100% cache hit.

Your network and disk speed are going to relate to those interface speeds. If you're hitting the upward bounds of your disk or network interface, then you should consider upgrading them.

What the FileMaker Server console doesn't show is processor usage. You should be able to get a readout of such from your windows monitoring tools. That may be an issue as well.

Hi, most of the time the processor works up to 20%-26% of its potential. I think it's good.

omeone told me to keep this value low (and we set it to 16MB)

That's exactly backwards. Set it as high as it will go, and set the flush interval to one minute.
