i would like to be able to export a complete file as a website self contained.

Thats a hot idea

no fanfare just simple

and be able to upload the entire thing to a hosting service and be done. Why have dreamweaver and all the other things. Let filemaker work become worth the effort.

This could be done. formating the Html in a filemaker calculation would be a challenge. I would recomend creating a sample web site in what ever program (dreamweaver,..) and pasteing the code into filemaker (If you do this in the setvariable, or maybe it was a set field, it would do most of the changes for you, ie. all the /'s to tell it to use the " as Charecters not formating) Then you just replace the parts you want to change with a calculation and do a set field, export field contents specifing the file type. and presto a web page on the fly. Addional steps could be done to automate the posting of the page to a site. (Would need applescript or vbs or something)

It would be very very very very useful in today's world if one could simply take a filemaker file and upload it to the internet and use it.

Like Flash , PDF, Shockwave and the like. That would be useful and inspiring.

This tool more or less does something in that direction, provided you can lay your hand on and set up such servers:
