Display Total # of Records

This is very basic, and I don't know if this applies to this topic, but I want to have a display at the top of my layout that shows the total number of records. For instance saying "18 out 69." I know how to insert a symbol for the current record, but I can't find any symbol or way to calculate and display the total number of records. Any ideas? Thanks a lot.
