Conditional formatting for Container fields

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of conditional formatting works on container fields.

FM's help says it works on "fields" which leads me to believe it should work on all fields.

But it's not working for me.

Conditional formatting is available for:

- Fields

- Text objects

- Buttons (a variation of text object)

- Web Viewers

An almost got it right function. Does'nt work on rectangles or circles either even though you can give them object names.

I can not think of a reason I would want to format a container, (or retangle, circle, etc either), maybe one of you can suggest how adding these would benefit us. Or what you are trying to accomplish, and maybe there is a different approach that we can suggest that would be as good or better.

How about changing background colors on conditions without messy workarounds.

IMO, I don't see a significant different between changing a global background, and invoking the Conditional Formatting that is in version 9, both require a calculation for the conditional change. I agree that there is some extra baggage for containers fields that would be involved, but depending on what you are doing, that would be minor.

BTW, I don't consider using FileMaker's fields, calculations, etc. as workarounds, I see these as knowing how to use FileMaker.
