move records between tables

Featured Replies

I would like to know how to move records between tables in Filemaker Pro Advanced (version 8). I have one table called "Referred Students" and another called "Active Students" and I would like to create a script in Filemaker Pro to move the current record from "Referred Students" to "Active Students". Is that reasonable?

I have a similar issue myself. Any insight would be appreciated!

In FileMaker, as in any true relational database, the idea is NOT to move records.

In your example of Referral students and Active students, they should reside in ONE table and have a field which categorizes them called StudentType or something.

Why? 1) you'll never have to move them and risk having it break and lose your information and 2) if you wish to search for someone, you'll search ONE table and find them.
