Alphabet Portal

I have a large database of clients, about 500,and I'm trying break them up into more manageable sizes using alphabetical keys and a portal. After a week of trying, it's time to turn to the experts. The attached zip explains my problem better than I can in words. Many thanks for any help!

A portal always shows all related records, both found and omitted. Finding records is irrelevant.
