Printing Portals

Featured Replies

I am having problems printing layouts/documents with portal information in Filemaker 9. Portals with Sliding Printing set to move up used to behave perfectly running Filemaker 8.5 on several client applications. Using FM9 the print or pdf is a mess on the same documents. Portal rows are missing or only half print. Is this a known issue with FM9? Is it being addressed by FMI? Has anyone else seen the same problem or come up with a solution?

Can you be specific about the OS and maybe post a screenshot?

I will tell you that on TechNet there was a similar post regarding problems with portal printing. Some chimed in that it was a "known issue." The workaround is the standard approach of having your print layout from the context of the child table.

Hi bcooney and ender

I am working on Mac OS 10.4.10 PowerPC G5

I attach a pdf of sample screen shots showing Browse View, Portal Sliding Printing Setup, Portal Field Sliding Printing Setup, FMP9 Preview and FMP8.5 Preview. This is one of many examples. All our system are affected. I do understand Ms Cooney's workaround but in some cases - eg. when we want to present side by side portals in the same document we have to ask our clients to persist with FMP8.5. Thankyou for your interest in this issue.

Barbara is absolutely correct, and then some. Portals are not designed for printing, since, among other reasons, they are specifically designed to hold a variable number of records.

Maybe you could use the list function to gather up the related child records into text fields?

Please note that I always have stated that repeaters should be used for utility purposes only ...here however is a way of optaining portalesk behaviour with the benefit of being able to slide into shape as well - a fine utility purpose.

I love Peters comments to his own tecnique:

To be clear, this method is far from ideal. When I generate a student report from my location, I can actually hear their server whining about it from 100 miles away
