Topher Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 This is a quest/challenge. If this already exists, could someone point me to it? If it doesn't maybe someone could give it a try. My thought was being able to print out one label at a time on a multi-label sheet such as Avery. This would mean letting the user choose row and column much like Word allows you to do. This would allow the user to re-feed a sheet of labels until all the labels are used. What do you guys think?

Vaughan Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Don't run part-used label sheets through a laser printer. The heat will cause the waxy paper to melt and stick to the drum. There is also the chance that the labels will loosen and detatch from the sheet inside the printer. Either way, the printer is damaged, usually beyond economical repair. The best method is to print single labels form a dedicated label printer.
LaRetta Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Hmmm, I'm not sure I agree ... I've been running partial labels through printers for 15+ years and have NEVER had a problem with it. I believe the 'rule' against it was devised by the label manufacturers and printer manufactuers, who prefer to sell more labels AND require more print runs to get the same job done. Of course a dedicated label printer is the way to go but that is not always the reality in mid to small-business out there. L
Vaughan Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Hi LaRetta I've seen a laser printer that was killed by labels: not pretty. I hate waste, but it's a risk:benefit compromise for labels in normal printers. I'd always recommend a label printer: zero waste.
Ender Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Yeah, I've seen a couple label-stuck-on-the-fuser situations. We had to replace the gummed-up fusers. I'm pretty sure it was from running the label sheet through more than once (though everybody tries to play dumb). I don't think they come off because something melted, but because the integrity of the labels is deteriorated from multiple turns through the rollers.
Vaughan Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 The whole point of being able to print labels out one-at-a-time from a sheet is to be able to re-use the sheet.
