In Filemaker 5.5 I'm having a problem hiding the files so people don't see them via tcp/ip. I have gone up to File > Sharing and then clicked on "Multi-Users (Hidden)". I have then restarted my computer and launched all the databases but when someone still types in the ip address it lists all my files! This is not good! At Macworld at the Filemaker booth a tech guy suggested that I move the databases out of the web folder. So I did that and they are still listing on the website!

Does anyone else have this problem or can suggest something to fix it?

Thank you

You are right! Changing the name of the file though may take awhile if I have 10 databases and about 50 pages or so. But . . . I just came up with a good workaround. I created a layout with nothing in it and then define that as the layout in Table view, Form view, and Search. I also make the Web Style Search only.

What this does? If some one clicks on one of the databases listed it will bring up the default Search page with no information showing and no way a person can click on any of the records. This process takes about a minute to do and is the best workaround I have found until Filemaker can fix this problem.

I personally think it is a bug and will try getting an answer from Filemaker next week.

Hmmm. There is a 5.5v2 patch out now, try installg that.

I have taken the databases and placed them in a folder outside of Filemaker. - I have also set all the files to single and restarted filemaker. All files still show up!

It's a bug.

What exactly in what application at what step are you typing the IP address into? FileMaker Pro's Hosts dialog box, a ScriptMaker "Open File" step, or a web browser?

Or it is a bug . . . I have been in contact with three other Filemaker users who have also tried this. We can all make it work in Filemaker 4 but it will not work in Filemaker 5.5v2. You are welcome to test it out. Right now I am just using one of the workarounds. On all of my new projects an underscore goes at the end of each filename.

Hang on -- you're talking about Instant Web Publishing. The Multi-user (Hidden) has *nothing* to do with web sharing: Multi-user (Hidden) is only when sharing through the FMP client.

I know very little about Instant, but I'd suggest that there is no way of hiding the web-shared databases other than un-sharing them.

Precisely. MUH refers to the names seen in the "Hosts" dialog box.

Now that FileMaker Pro uses XML, although this could have been done before as well, when a call is passed to it, it will return metadata such as the name of all files broadcasting http to the web. You can put these files behind a web server in a RAIC, and then their names will not appear directly.

From the microsecond I've actually used Instant, I remember that Web Companion automatically generates a "home page" that lists all of the web-shared databases on the server. I think the original question involved hiding some databases from this generated list.

I dunno if it can be done. Other than turning off Instant and going to Custom Web Publiahing, I mean. wink.gif" border="0

I already am running 5.5v2 but thank you. It's been confirmed on three different machines that it does not work. I also launched OS9 and ran Filemaker 4. It worked with no problems.

Filemaker doesn't respond when you submit a bug. But it definitely is a bug.

If all you are doing is serving these files to the web for access by web browsers, first do remove them from the web folder. Second, set them all to Single user. They do NOT have to be multi-user to be shared via the web for browsers.
