Import only unique ID's

Featured Replies

I get customer list from my customer with customers who ows money to the company. The list's I get is in Excel (xml format).

My problem is that some customers have more then one debt so the customers ID can occur many times.

How can I get FM to ignore duplicates of the customers ID. But still I want to get one of the field's.

So if a customer have 5 records in Excel I want FM only to import one and ignore the others. Is that possible and not to hard to do as I'm not an expert on FM?

Import Grouped data isn't a feature as it is in Export...

So you need to import the lot of them, and then dedupe ...say like one of the methods mentioned here:

http://www.databasepros.com/FMPro?-DB=resources.fp5&-lay=cgi&-format=list.html&-FIND=+&resource_id=DBPros000744

But there is a facinating way, if you exploit what here is called Ugo's method, simplified slightly makes it an extra field act as primary key for yet another relation, over which the first internal ID for each grouping is evaluated.

Earlier on was it nessersary to gather these values in a global field, but with fm8's arrival did the GTRR(FS) relieve us from that burden, which then takes us to all the calculated fields matches over a selfjoin. Duplicates will not be in the found set, only each first occurence of each value...

The simple way is to define the ID field as unique, validate always.
