Garry Claridge Posted January 16, 2002 Posted January 16, 2002 Port "5003" is the one you should open on the routers. All the best. Garry
Newbies rgswcomm Posted January 16, 2002 Newbies Posted January 16, 2002 Thanks Gary, Just wondering if there is a way to check that port 5003 is open on each router. Perhaps a way to ping? Also, wondering if we have to have FM Server software as opposed to just having FM 5.5? It's just three people wanting access. Cheers, Richard
Steven H. Blackwell Posted January 16, 2002 Posted January 16, 2002 It will be slow, but you don't have to have FileMaker Server. If using FileMAker Pro 5.5 just open Port 5003 for TCP access. UDP doesn't matter either way. You say that "remote access" is on. What does that mean? There is no such function in FileMaker Pro. Do you maybe mean the RDAC? The remote data access companion? That is for ODBC actions; it has no effect on what you're trying to do. So just disable it. Old Advance Man
Newbies rgswcomm Posted January 17, 2002 Newbies Posted January 17, 2002 Hi all, This is my first post and is a newbie question regarding networking FM 5.5 A colleague and I want to share a FM 5.5 file served from one PC (Win 2000 or 98) and a Mac G4. There are two routers invloved from two different manufacturers (d-link 704 and WatchGuard SoHo) FM is all set-up with sharing set for "multi-user", remote access is "on" and the routers both have 5003 opened (we think) So far, any tests have failed. Niether of us can connect via "open remote" or by browser (using web companion) to either machine. Does anyone have info on where we can access detailed instructions on setting this up? We are not network savvy but are anxious to get this going. We've been searching the archives on this list and have read many posts, however most have a unique environment which we can't seem to relate to. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Richard
Kurt Knippel Posted January 17, 2002 Posted January 17, 2002 Generally in this kind of config you will need to specify the IP address of the host to be able to connect.
Newbies rgswcomm Posted January 17, 2002 Newbies Posted January 17, 2002 CaptKurt, We have been specifying the IP address via the "open remote" - "Specifc Host" dialogue. The arrows startup and then disappear and nothing comes up. What we're wondering is are we actually getting through the firewall. Do you know if 5003 is the correct port to open on the routers? Cheers
