Date format for php

Hi

Have just started working with php on FMS Advanced 9 and noticed it will only accept date values in US format MM/DD/YYYY. Can this be changed anywhere. The local system date is in UK format. I would like to be able to input dates in this format:

DD/MM/YYYY
