[OT]Windows Vista

How many of you have switched? We just swapped Vista off of a machine here, and after reading this article I will not be switching to it on my personal computers.

"New tests have revealed that Windows XP with the beta Service Pack 3 has twice the performance of Vista, even with its long-awaited Service Pack 1."

I bought a laptop a couple months back and it came with Vista. I don't use it much but so far I'm not impressed. It seems bloated and doesn't really do anything new. To me it is like rearranging the furniture in your living room. Still the same room with the same stuff just arranged differently.

The real downside for me is that Vista doesn't work with my printer. It is an HP3150 and there is no driver available and I don't think there ever will be.

I'm sure there is some cool stuff in Vista but I'm considering downgrading to XP.

I've been running both XP and Vista since August. I tell everyone who will listen: "stay with XP as long as you can."

All the quirky problems I've encountered in the past 6 months have been with Vista. Examples: clicking through the active window to the window below ... numerous drag and drop issues ... device drivers ... a $500 software package that won't run at all. And then there are all of the GUI "improvements" that are so pointless and annoying.

In my opinion Vista will become useful when they decide to release a "Vista Lite -- all the security improvements with none of the fluff". We can only hope.

I agree stick with XP. I was planning on waiting on buying a new laptop for myself. But considering they will not be selling XP after Jan 31,2008 I'm going to take the plunge and buy my XPS M1730 for Xmas.......lol. With XP installed of course. :

We also decided today to buy 5 XP site licenses for later. Vista just isn't ready and may very well be the new Windows ME. Well maybe not that bad but yeah :

Hold on to XP until the big fuss is over! Why would Microsoft still be building service packs for XP?

XP will be faster and much more compatible than Vista for at least a year or until they bring out a new version like "Vista 2" or something.

Newest is not always the best!

Why would Microsoft still be building service packs for XP?
Because unlike some nameless companies *FileMaker**FileMaker*, Microsoft continues to support their products even after they release new versions - in the case of XP until the year 2014.

That being said, I'm still running XP

But considering they will not be selling XP after Jan 31,2008

On that note:

"Microsoft has had to allow PC manufacturers to continue to sell XP on new PCs, setting a deadline for the last sale at January 31. However, the pressure from manufacturers and consumers has been so great that Microsoft has been forced to extend the deadline another five months, until June."
