Hello everyone and Happy new Year!

I have quite a similar problem and i really don't know how to solve it. i read this thread and it did help me a lot. but i was wondering how i could share files from a FMP server over the network. so here's my situation:

the calculation i have in my database works just fine. the problem is every time i try to export the content of the field onto, say my desktop from a filemakert client on the network, the software tells me that the file could not be found, therefore the export cannot take place.

what kind of script can i write that will allow me to download a file that's referenced in a database, and that's also residing on a folder on the fmp server hard drive. right now, i can download the file from teh server itself using teh client version of filemaker, but every time i try to do this from a network mac, the operation fails because the file cannot be found. i've attempted the follwing calculation with no success:

"imagemac:/Macintosh HD/Users/John/Documents/I mages/holiday.jpg" --> The picture shows up on a networked client but fails to be exported.

is there anyway i can get this to work without using the web component of the filemaker pro server?

Many thanks for all of your help.

The path information for the local and remote FMP clients is different, but most importantly you are running a large risk by having the FMServer hard drive shared on the network.

I have tried a few times to resolve this issue too, and I always end up with the conclusion that I must store the images in a FMP file on the server - not as references.

Incidentally, as you mentioned the web component it's worth remembering that any files that FMP needs to reference (for web publishing) must be in the Web folder.

I Was wondering,

It looks like this works but I would like some input.....

If I reference an Illustrator file then the image appears in Filemaker, however I really want to delete the original files, so I would like to import a refrence so you can see the thing and also import the actual file into a hidden field (Container) then I have a viewable image and the original file which can be exported any time.... ? However how can Filemaker "Capture that image" which it references ? so that when it moves the image filemaker showes is still there ?
