I am wondering if there's a way to format or script a selected checkbox set to display horizontally instead of vertically?

The field behind is a pilcrow delimited field, and by making one value list for each choice and apply each list to a copy of the same field, can you splay them to your hearts desires!

You can simply resize the checkboxed field so it's very wide and not very tall.

PS: Hm. Unless you want just the values from that field to display horizontally, then you need a calc field =Substitute(checkboxField; ¶ ; " ").

The display of information was what I was trying to accomplish and the "Substitute" statement worked perfectly. Thanks!
