Question about Icon

I was looking at some of the sample databases inside of FMP and I noticed that there are small icons next to add record, delete record, and find record. One appears as a rolodex card and the find is a magnifying glass.

How do i use an icon like that in my DB and are there any other icons to choose from??

Thanks

Hello,

Go to the layout which contains the icons that you would like to use in one of your own databases. Next, go in to layout mode. Select the icon you want to duplicate for use elsewhere. Make a duplicate of it on the layout. Select the duplicated icon, then go to the 'arrange' menu and select ungroup if the icon is made up of more than one graphic piece, ungroup [you will get a dialogue saying that by doing so you will disable the button action attached to the icon - proceed, if you don't care. Then just copy and paste into your database to use and attach your script action.

I have also put together a Filemaker database of the best icons for use in Filemaker. They are all in .PNG format to allow for transparancy and proper sizing. If you want a copy of it, let me know. It is 250 megs in size so I am sure you will find some use for them..

Hi Kevin,

That is a very generous offer. Is that a zipped file, or what it weights before you compact it?

Hi [color:red]Robb Helt

Take a look at Theme Library, Here for some great layout concepts, and buttons. Also, go to the http://www.filemakermagazine.com/ and check out some of the Articles about design, etc.

Hi Lee, Yes, I agree, the Theme Library is one awesome set of graphics for use in FM. I got it yesterday.

The file is zipped and is 210 megs. I made a basic fm db to store the graphic icons I have acquired over the past and sort them. It is quite a ton of images, but they have come in handy.

Hi Kevin,

Just to clarify a couple of things. This wording has me concerned.

I have acquired over the past .....

I hope you mean that you created them, or that they are not in anyway copy protected. After all, we are a world wide list, and do have a Rule about Copy Protected Material being posted.

The size of your file will make it hard to share. For instance, my IP will not allow files larger than 10 MB, and the Forum has a limit of 10 files, and max size of 1.05 MB per file.

In order to share it, you will need to work around these limitations, or post it to a Site where the limit is bigger.

Indeed Lee, that is true. The size is intimidating and huge to say the least. So I will just make one that is smaller for post.

Yes, they are "Open Source" icons and in the public domain, just that I have combed the web over time and found them.
