mkruter Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 I have many advertisers. Each advertiser fits into a category, so there may be 100 advertisers and 25 categories. This will be done in FMpro8 How do I make a simple report that lists all the advertisers sorted by category, above each group of advertisers it displays the category and how many advertisers are in each category. I would also like to make a similar report without listing each of the advertisers. Thanks in advance, Marc
UpNorth Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 What you will want to do is create a new layout/report. My suggestion would be to go into filemaker help and read up on how to do this. They will explain things better then I can in this post. :
mkruter Posted January 18, 2008 Author Posted January 18, 2008 That was, of course, the first thing that I did. After my failure to understand the explanation I turned to this forum. It seems like a very simple thing that any developer with a basic knowledge should be able to do in their sleep! But I am not a developer and do not understand the Help language. Please just tell me, step by step, what to do. Thanks, Marc
UpNorth Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Check this website out and see if it explains it better for you. http://my.advisor.com/doc/19081?open&p=1&pid=ztfmfu It gives you screen shots and detailed info about what your choices are. Let me know if this helps?
UpNorth Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Seeing the link above doesn't work anymore I've typed up some instructions. You will notice that it isn't as simple as one might think. 1st step is to create a summary field that will count Advertiser, which I will call count_advertiser Next you will want to go into layout mode Click on the layout menu Select New Layout/Record Name your layout Select layout type: Columnar list/report Click Next Choose Report layout: Report with grouped data and check the include subtotals check box. Select the fields you want on your report (Advertiser, category & count_advertiser for sure) Click Next Move the category field over to the report categories column Click Next If you want your advertisers to be in alphabetical order move it over to the sort order column under your category field. Click Next Specify Subtotals: Specify summary field: count_advertiser Subtotal placement: Above record group Click add subtotal Click Next Select the theme you want Click Next Put Header and footers if wanted Click Next Create a script if wanted Click next View in preview mode Click next Good Luck
mkruter Posted January 21, 2008 Author Posted January 21, 2008 (edited) Mr. North, Thank you so much for your help! I adapted your instructions to fit my needs and it works great. One of the things that I did not realize is that sub-summary reports only work in preview mode. -MKruter Edited January 21, 2008 by Guest
