MHAriete64
I'm hosting a FM 8.5 solution using FMS 8 on a Windows 2000 server. My client interfaces won't let me "Save a copy as..." in the FILE menu. I'd like to use this to back up full copies of the solution from the client. I can export and import records, but "Save a copy as..." is dimmed and unavailable. I've checked privileges on the file and I have full privileges. When I open the same solution on a PC or MAC (not thru the FMS), I have the ability to "Save a copy as...". Am I missing something simple? I don't have direct access to the FMS as the MIS people are controlling that. If there is some switch on the FMS interface, please give me as specific directions as you can, as I haven't been able to learn how to use the FMS interface and will have to walk the MIS guys through it. Thanks in advance!! Best, - Michael
AudioFreak
To make a backup you should use the FM Server to do the backups. The reason "Save a copy as" is dimmed out is because the file is being hosted. If you close the file and open it directly it will not be dimmed. MHAriete64
Thanks Michael. I was afraid it was built into the FMS. :
Steven H. Blackwell
Save a copy of a hosted file is not supported and is a bad idea. Use the internal FileMaker Server backup utilitytomake a backup. Steven
