January 25, 200817 yr I wish filemaker would create a tool that would rebuild all indexes within a file. Currently, to rebuild them you would need to either manually turn indexing off on every indexed field and then turn them all back on (completely inpractial on larger files) or recover the file (after which the file should not be used). I have seen so many problems over the years that can be traced back to an indexing problem that I feel that this would be one of the most powerfull maintainence tools that could be given to us.
January 25, 200817 yr I always thought that if you saved as compacted, or smaller, that it rebuilt the indexes. Saving a compacted copy When you save a compacted copy, FileMaker Pro rewrites the entire database, fitting as much data into each block as possible. This reclaims unused space in the file and [color:blue]rebuilds the file's structure. Compacting can be time-consuming if a file is large, and might be best accomplished as an overnight task. Lee
January 25, 200817 yr Author No, "Save as...(compacted)" does NOT rebuild the indexes. I had thought that as well until I tried to use it to rebuild them in a file. It did not work and I had to settle for rebuilding the index manually.
