Bailey Kessing Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I have 4 old G5s (dual core, 2Gz) that I am using as servers. I would like to replace them with intel Mac Mini C2D 2Gz, for size and expense. Will the Intel Mac Mini perform as well or better than the G5s? Anyone have any experience? Opinions?
IdealData Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 There's been many debates on this one - the Mac Mini has a bit of a dodgy hard drive according to many.... Recently I went searching for some co-location services and I found several sites offering co-lo using Mac Mini - even some older G4s, however that's not to say that current Mac Minis are as reliable. I use a single G5 2Ghz Xserve to host FMS 8.04 with around 20-30 clients active all day. There are no complaints about performance and my system comprises 45 files (not tables), over 1Gb of data and over 7 years of history. The only problem you face is that FMS9 is not available on PPC with Leopard - Tiger only, not even Panther.
