Relationship issues...and I don't mean my gf

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new here, so if I mess up posting or don't use the right lingo please just let me know.

I was wondering if there was a way to create records in a table through another table without using scripts (I'm new to FMP and I haven't quite gotten to that point yet.)

Background: I'm creating a DB for my family shoe wholesale business. When it's done, multiple people will need to be able to use it...on a single computer so no networking is needed...but it must be easy enough for people who are barely computer literate.

I've already created PO forms that create, through portals, individual purchase records. I've done the same on the sales end (an invoice form that create individual sales records through a portal). This has made data entry fairly simple. Putting the two together on the inventory and, more problematically, on the financial side though has been difficult.

To get the inventory reports to work I've had to manually create each sub-section as a separate record (e.g. Converse - men, Converse - women, etc...). I created an inventory table, used a template report layout, and ran into the missing records issue. I was wondering if there was any way to have FMP automatically create new entries in inventory if such an entry is not already there. (e.g. I purchase some converse - kids, fm recognizes there is no such inventory record and creates it for me).

I have issues on the financial side, like I said, but I think I'll save those for after I solve the inventory problem. (we have quickbooks to handle the finances for now). Sorry this post is so long...and still I'm not sure if I've made myself clear.

Thanks in advance.

hmmm...nobody? Maybe this will help, I'm including a screenshot of the relationships I've created. I can include the file in a while if someone needs to look at it (I'm still toying with some of the other aspects of this DB, so some of the features I've mentioned aren't working right now).

I am not sure if this is what you need but did you check the box create record when you created the relationship.
