Filemaker Server - Other Volumes

Featured Replies

Hi:

First let me say that I have no access or input to the setup of Filemaker Server in our organistation.

I just create the databases and our network person puts them on Filemaker Server.

Recently we have moved to a new server.

Our network person has Filemaker Server setup as a volume on one of those servers.

So when a user logs on to the server ip address to mount a volume for another business purpose, they see and can mount the Filemaker Server as a volume on their desktop. Just as they can see any other volume. Note: They cannot open the databases this way.

The network person sees no problem with this situation.

Can someone let me know if this is an issue.

And if so what can I suggest to management to rectify this.

It is an issue. Explain to the network person that data corruption will occur if the hosted files are opened directly.

As I indicated they cannot open the hosted files by selecting them through the finder.

They still have to use Open Remote to open hosted files.

The issue (as I see it) is that Filemaker Server files should not be visible to the user in the finder.

Am I correct in saying this?
